Miu Miu Sparks Optimism With Its Preppy Chinese New Year Capsule

Out with the old and in with the new – such is the motto of the Miu Miu league for its varsity-themed Chinese New Year collection.

After months of hiding out in comfy sweats, nothing rings in the New Year quite like a preppy-meets-edgy capsule collection. For the Year of the Ox, Italian luxury house Miu Miu bids an onerous 2020 goodbye with a fresh selection of varsity-themed separates. Think: lettered lambwool sweaters, structured nappa leather jackets, gingham check twill shirts and tweed mini skirts.

The capsule's vibrant and energetic mood is amplified by its finer details. From crystal-bonded satin sandals to the Miu Belle bag, the house's penchant for maximalist accessories are apparent – and not for the colour-shy. Topped off with the Miu Miu Twist Eau de Toilette – a refreshing blast of mandarin and apple blossom – the line-up boasts something for everyone.

Keeping to the theme of looking to the future, the campaign finds new Miu Miu girls in some of the region's rising stars. Shot by photographer Nick Yang, it features the fresh faces of Chinese actress and singer Yifan Zhang – of Produce Camp fame – actress Qiu Tan as well as models Gu Xue and Yuru Zhang. They join the ranks of some of the brand's much-loved and effortlessly cool icons, such as Chloë Sevigny and Elle Fanning.
