The multi-hyphenate that is Larry Peh (@andlarry) is a force to be reckoned with. His credits as Creative Director and Founder of his own design firm, &Larry, include Google, Herman Miller, Restaurant André, Xtra and Supermama. On the side, he’s also behind local menswear label Faculty.

My main pleasure is time spent with my children, music, photographic art and books, and fashion.

I hate the cliché that designers are just an arty farty bunch clad in black and Common Projects Achilles low sneakers.

However, I'm guilty of one particular cliché: Dark rimmed glasses.

Singapore is a place I call home and where my heart is. But I find it increasingly hard to breathe here. I’m seriously considering opening up another office somewhere else where the pace is a lot slower yet still well connected.

Fashion plays a big role in my life. I love it, I consume it, I wasted it and now I am creating something that I hope will last a long long time.

I think design can transcend form and function and become art, though many times not within the designer or artist’s lifetime. With a few exceptions, like Marc Newson.

I love the strange, unsettling kinds of photography made with love, purity and innocence. I particularly love designs with contrast or irony like Jean Prouvé’s Standard Chair that was designed for schools but is able to withstand an elephant’s weight. Or the fact that Le Corbusier’s honest and low-cost Cube Stool can be found in some of the most luxurious homes today.

Get to know our pick of ten rule-breaking creatives in the March 2017 issue of L'Officiel Singapore.
