Max Mara's New Eyewear Collection Sees A Collaboration With CoopDPS
Max Mara Eyewear and Safilo unveil "NEOPRISM" - the 4th edition of its "Prism" collaborations, working with industrial designer George Sowden and painter Nathalie Du Pasquier, known by the moniker, CoopDPS. The brand has previously worked with artists Maya Hayuk for "OPTIPRISM", Shantell Martin for "PRISM IN MOTION", and Kerstin Bratsch and United Brothers for "LAVAPRISM".
Nathalie Du Pasquier is a Milan based painter, who has roots as a designer and is a founder of the Memphis group, before becoming a full-time painter from 1987. She currently showcases more abstract work in her recent exhibitions, from the Camden Arts Centre in London to the MGLC in Ljubljana. Meanwhile, George Sowden is a UK born designer now residing in Milan, who's also a co-founder of the Memphis group. The designer has an interest in working with craft and smaller industrial organizations. Back in 1991, his product design for Olivetti also clinched him the Compasso d'Oro. A couple of years back in 2011, the designer also celebrated the 30th anniversary of his studio, SowdenDesign, and started his own brand named Sowden. The talented pair go by the name of CoopDPS when working together, the reason being that their collaborative works differ from their individual ones.
This time, the collaboration with CoopDPS brings us the limited edition MM DPS sunglasses -available in only 800 pieces for Max Mara's Fall/Winter 2019 eyewear collection. The duo's unique take on the "Prism" reflects the idea of the Max Mara woman, with the design effectively melding feminity with a functional aesthetic. This brings us the geometric shaped sunglasses containing a square and circle shape that make up the logo of the "PRISM" collection.
The frames come in a classic black colour with grey lenses and red temple tips, or in a striking orange and black colour paired with vibrant red temples and yellow tips. The bright orange and black colours are also seen on the glasses' metal box packaging, fittingly mixed in with geometric patterns. A soft black case is also included for the sunglasses. The pair also explained that the unique packaging adds a playful touch to the collection, juxtaposing with the simple and minimal appearance of the sunglasses.
