JW Anderson Displays Obsessive Craftsmanship for his Spring/Summer 2025 Show
Jonathan Anderson shows his masterful manipulation of textile for his womenswear Spring/Summer 2025 show at London Fashion Week
At One Old Billingsgate, with its sweeping views of the Thames, JW Anderson unveiled his women's Spring/Summer 2025 collection, accompanied by a remix from Pascal Moscheni, where the phrase “I’m obsessed” echoed throughout. Anderson's latest collection is an evolving narrative of wardrobe essentials, brimming with inventive craftsmanship. Thick cotton threads transform into intricate knitwear, while woven constructions give rise to strikingly creative silhouettes. Bias-cut sequin minidresses shimmer alongside sleeveless vests adorned with ribbon details. Staying true to his signature style, Jonathan Anderson reintroduces his beloved trompe-l'œil, this time cleverly applied to merino wool dresses with printed sweatshirts and sheath dresses embellished with transparent sequins and faux button motifs.
The collection pushes boundaries with sculptural leather tutus, fluid satin gowns, and long wool sheath dresses knotted at the hem to create fresh, voluminous shapes. Some garments spoke louder, literally. “I used text from art critic Clive Bell,” Anderson explained during the post-show press gathering, “It’s about art and aesthetics. There’s no deeper reason beyond my enjoyment of treating clothing as a blank canvas.” His enthusiasm for conceptual design was palpable as he mingled with the press.
Front row attendees were a constellation of stars, including Italian actor Manfredi, the breakout talent in Luca Guadagnino's film Queer, alongside musical powerhouses Heir and James Blake. The glamorous mother-son duo, Patsy Kensit and Lennon Gallagher, also made a striking appearance, adding to the allure of this unforgettable fashion affair.
