Up Close with Christian Louboutin
Where do you find beauty?
I find a woman's power immensely beautiful. I am more moved by a beautifully landscaped garden than by wild nature – something that is artificially manufactured isn't by definition superficial. And I have been fascinated and influenced by music, architecture, and Nefertiti since my childhood,
Where do you see yourself in twenty years?
Enjoying life, like now. And hopefully, I can return to my beloved Syria.
What do you dream of doing?
For a long time, I have dreamt of building small hotels. But here in Paris, I can combine everything I love: fabrics, architecture, gardens, service, art, and travel.
Are you a morning person?
Hell yes. I am the most productive and creative early in the morning.
What does your average day look like?
As soon as I wake up, I work out with my personal trainer or sometimes I go running. Then I make a light breakfast for myself and head to my office just before 10am. I lunch at half past two – usually at home – after which I go to back to work. At the end of the day, I visit family and go out for dinner.
What's your breakfast of choice?
At home, I eat muesli with fruit or gluten-free bread with salted butter. If I have the time, I have Earl Gray tea. In England I like a hearty breakfast, especially with crumpets . But in Egypt, I often choose cornflakes with fig jam, honey and lemon: I love it all over.
What your favorite breakfast spots?
Chez Claus in Paris; Claridge's in London; in the gardens of Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles – never in the room, it takes too long.
What are your hobbies?
I love movies, gastronomy, and I have a passion for gardening: I do that when I'm in Vendée and Portugal. In cities, I always prefer gardens and architecture instead of museums.
