Born in the small town of Rheinberg, Germany, Claudia Schiffer had dreams of becoming a lawyer — but fate had other plans. Discovered at a nightclub in Düsseldorf, the leggy beauty shot to fame as one of the original supermodels of the '90s and a muse to designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Gianni Versace.
After a stellar career that cemented her place in fashion and popular history, Schiffer officially retired in 2009, although she returned to the runway once more for Versace's now-iconic Spring/Summer 2018 show, a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Gianni Versace's passing that saw her take the catwalk alongside fellow supers Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni.
Schiffer married film director Matthew Vaughn in 2002, and together the couple have three children: Caspar Matthew, Clementine Poppy and Cosima Violet. She turns 50 today, but between being a mother, running an Instagram page with over a million followers, and curating an upcoming exhibition on '90s fashion photography at the Kunstpalast Museum, Schiffer definitely isn't slowing down soon.
