Gucci Welcomes Chinese New Year With A Playful Doraemon Collaboration
By now, manga and high fashion tie ups are not uncommon occurrences. But it's certainly one we welcome, especially when it comes as adorable as with Gucci’s latest special collaboration collection featuring manga and anime pop icon Doraemon.
Coming just in time for the Lunar New Year, which heralds the year of the Ox, the special collection imagined by Creative Director Alessandro Michele features a range of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories for men and women with Doraemon in his classic blue colour over the GG motif.
This also marks the Japanese manga’s 50th anniversary, one beloved by kids and adults alike as a cat-type robot sent from XXII century to aid a young boy called Nobita Nobi, and secret gadgets from his four-dimensional pouch.
Debuting January 12, the campaign, shot by photographer Angelo Pennetta shows us a hybrid of Gucci’s maximalist and baroque sensibilities with Doraemon’s signature whimsy, transforming everyday activities - from breakfast to video games - into joyful adventures.
The animated icon takes center stage alongside Gucci models draped in the garments from the collection, donning a signature retro aesthetic from dresses, jackets, skirts, tracksuits, leather-trimmed bucket hats, and more.
With over 50 items, the collection features adorable manga character in a range of poses, while retaining Gucci’s signature design elements, such as iconic green and red stripes down the sleeves of its jackets.
