Game Theory: Louis Vuitton Teams Up With Riots Games On A League Of Legends Capsule
Die-hards of both gaming and fashion have reason to rejoice with the new League of Legends drop from Louis Vuitton in partnership with Riot Games. The collaboration was inaugurated in October when the luxury house created skins (purchasable outfits for in-game characters) for the 2019 World Championship, along with a trophy case for the prized Summoner’s Cup, and now the maison has launched a capsule collection spanning ready-to-wear and accessories that seamlessly blends classic house codes with the iconography of the LOL universe.
Imagined by artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière, the collection comprises more than 40 athleisure-influenced pieces, such as tech jersey crop tops, nylon track pants, metallic leather jackets, and cycling shorts. Many of the items feature the special collaboration print, a camouflage-style white and blue pattern on the maison’s iconic monogram, including bags like the Speedy, Neverfull, and Boîte Chapeau Souple, shoes like the Archlight sneakers, Star Trail boots, and Beaubourg platform derbies, and the Tambour Horizon connected watch.
The capsule also showcases a new house signature, first discovered on the Prestige skin for League of Legends character Qiyana. Inspired by her ring blade, the motif encloses the LV logo within the circular design, and appears on zipper pulls, bag charms, and more.
This isn’t the first time that the world of Louis Vuitton has intersected with that of e-sports; the brand used Lightning from Final Fantasy as one of the faces of its Spring/Summer 2016 womenswear campaign. But with more than 8 million people who play the game daily and nearly 100 million who tuned in to last year’s championship, this new collection promises to be, dare we say it, legendary.
The Louis Vuitton x League of Legends capsule collection is available for pre-order now on the Louis Vuitton e-commerce site
