Fendi Marks Its 100th Anniversary with a Spectacular Tribute to Its Legacy
To celebrate its centenary, Fendi delivered a fashion show that combined archives, modernity and emotion.
Fendi’s centennial celebration was nothing short of a grand spectacle—an emotional and visually stunning journey through a century of heritage, craftsmanship, and modern reinvention. The luxury house honoured its past while embracing the future, seamlessly blending archival influences with contemporary artistry in a breathtaking fashion show.
From the very first moment, history took center stage. As the lights dimmed and anticipation electrified the air, two small figures emerged—Dardo and Tazio, the six-year-old grandsons of Silvia Venturini Fendi. Hand in hand, they pushed open two towering wooden doors, exact replicas of those from Fendi’s very first boutique on Via Borgognona in Rome. It was a poignant nod to the brand’s origins, a reminder that, despite its position within the LVMH empire, Fendi remains deeply rooted in family values. Founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, the house has always been about legacy, passion, and the seamless transmission of savoir-faire from one generation to the next.
The absence of an artistic director following Kim Jones’ recent departure could have left a void, but instead, the collection proved that Fendi’s DNA is as strong as ever. The runway—a striking red brick path—set the stage for 85 looks that paid homage to Fendi’s beginnings as a fur and leather atelier. The collection reimagined these signature materials with a contemporary and ethical sensibility. While a few luxurious zebra mink coats graced the runway, the majority of pieces embraced shearling, reflecting the brand’s commitment to evolving with modern luxury’s shifting expectations.
The colour palette moved fluidly between ethereal pastels and rich, earthy browns, enveloping silhouettes that were at once structured and weightless. Impeccably tailored suits, mohair dresses that faded like watercolour paintings, and diaphanous lace skirts evoked an effortless balance between power and delicacy. Archival references wove their way through the designs, never feeling nostalgic but instead breathing new life into Fendi’s storied past.
As for the casting, the runway was a constellation of fashion’s finest. Supermodels of past and present—Adriana Lima, Yasmin Le Bon, Eva Herzigová, and Karen Elson—commanded the stage with timeless grace. Adding to the allure, Sarah Jessica Parker made a special appearance, paying homage to the legendary Baguette bag, which she helped immortalize through Sex and the City.
Just when it seemed the evening couldn’t be more exhilarating, a surprise awaited. Dancehall legend Sean Paul took the stage for an unexpected, high-energy finale that sent the audience into a frenzy. The celebration closed on a jubilant note, leaving behind an undeniable sense of triumph.
This was more than just a fashion show—it was a love letter to Fendi’s legacy, a tapestry woven with a century of innovation, artistry, and family spirit. With every stitch, every silhouette, and every moment, Fendi reaffirmed its place in fashion history, proving that after 100 years, its story is far from over. Instead, it is boldly charting its next chapter with the same audacity and elegance that have defined it from the very beginning.
