If you're unfamiliar with name Faustine Steinmetz, that's about to change. The London-based Parisian designer – best known for her intricate and imaginative reworking of denim pieces – has just been tapped to create a capsule collection with Diesel.

Steinmetz is the first designer Diesel has teamed up with as part of Denim Lab, a space for experimentation created by Artistic Director Nicola Formichetti to champion young designers. This womenswear and menswear capsule collection, in particular, pushes the boundary of traditional design with denim-mesh skirts, jackets, dresses, and jumpsuits featuring a transparent devoré motif. The result? Pure surrealism – just imagine denim being ‘erased’ to create the illusion of it being suspended in midair.

"“Denim is most importantly what we stand for and we want to keep pushing forward the Diesel DNA with material, innovation, technology and new shapes. We’ve created a laboratory of denim experts to produce our first collection, which will continue to evolve as new personalities join the project.”  – Nicola Formichetti
