Céline Winter 2017
On Sunday, Instagram was lousy with short video clips of Céline’s revolving (and according to some, dizzying) runway set, on which many journalists and buyers seemed to project their angst over the state of the fashion industry and wider world.
Putting such highbrow concerns aside, Phoebe Philo reliably zeroed in on the desires of her busy 21st century woman, turning out a collection full of no-nonsense pieces. Button-through leather shirtwaist dresses, roomy macs and double-breasted suits came in a moody palette of earthy colours; there was little room for escapism in Philo’s vision of the season to come, which one suspects is exactly how the designer wanted it.
