3 trends from Celine's Spring/Summer 2022 to borrow for the new year
Set on the historic Promenade des Anglais in Nice, Celine blends tradition with modernity for Spring/Summer 2022.
Blending glamour and ease with whites and beachy textiles, Celine’s spring-summer 2022 collection puts a twist on the traditional riviera aesthetic. The result? An edgy yet feminine collection that is the epitome of effortless, French-girl cool. We highlight three of the top trends from the show.
Pinstripes and retro patterns
Retro prints are jazzed up for the modern age. Blue and white pinstripes come tailored in loose, oversized silhouettes. Look 24, in particular, is reminiscent of the classic, collared blouses and swing skirts of the 50s. In this collection, the cinched waist and fitted top elements are deconstructed for a more comfortable, contemporary ease.
Breton stripes became popular back in the 60s, often seen on French actress, model and all-around glamour icon, Brigitte Bardot. Reimagined for the modern age, it features in the show on tube dresses and tops that are edged out with cool leather and chic chausser jackets, chunky white platform sneakers and trendy, slouchy jeans.
Whites and neutrals
Neutral shades and natural fibers have long been associated with Mediterranean retreats. Straw hats, canvas bags, crochet — all in neutral tones — all feature in this collection, edged out with black leather and denim.
For look 43, a white Bardot style crop top is paired with a leather skirt cut just below the knee. The cropped fit of the top is juxtaposed with the longer length of the skirt, creating a look that feels timelessly elegant yet still fresh and trendy.
The contemporary, oversized silhouettes continue in look 38, which features an ivory oversized, typography hoodie dress with minimalist black boots. Look 05 features a 70s inspired, Jane Birkin-esque crochet, bell sleeve tunic top over shorts. The look features other retro elements such as pink 50's inspired butterfly sunglasses but gets a modern twist with white sneakers and a trendy, tan leather, mini box bag embossed with the Celine Triomphe. Oozing boho-chic, this ensemble would not be out of place on the riviera or at any trendy music festival in this era.
Canvas bags and straw hats also get a contemporary update with the addition of the Celine Triomphe crafted in black calfskin. Creating the perfect, statement accessories for any Cote D'Azur getaway.
All that glamour
What's Riviera fashion without a little glamour? The collection brought the glitz and chic to the 21st century with beautifully cut tops, slinky dresses and an ultra-elegant jumpsuit.
Slinky, sultry dresses in elongated silhouettes come in the form of looks 58 and 61. Look 58 showcases a stunning, bright-pastel lavender cowl neck, slip dress style gown with a subtle, iridescent sparkle. Keeping with the theme, the floaty, feminine dress is contrasted with an oversized leather jacket and dark, cateye sunglasses.
Celine went full-on glamour in look 61, with a beautifully draped gown crafted entirely in a sparkly, metallic silver fabric. A carefully placed cut-out that revealed just the right amount of skin, gave a modern, contemporary edge to this statement evening dress.
Glamour doesn't just call for gowns, the edgy-feminine aesthetic continues in the form of look 60 and look 49. Look 60 presents an immaculately tailored black jumpsuit with a full-sequin fitted top. The slightly wide-fit pant bottom added an almost breezy elegance while maintaining structure and modernity. Look 49 brought glamour to the modern era through the pairing of a short, crips, black peplum top with wide-fit jeans and sparkly, pointed heels.
