From Kim Kardashian to Cardi B, Celebs Are Turning Heads In Gaultier's Vintage 90s print
Bold, vibrant and vintage! The latest fashion trend amongst celebrities is this powerful print by Jean Paul Gaultier, which has its roots from the runway as far back as the 90s, more precisely from Gaultier’s futuristic, mad-max inspired fall show in 1995.
The designer was inspired by the works of Victor Vasarely, who was considered one of the godparents of the op art movement. Born in 1907, the French artist was known for creating art pieces that deceive the eye. And Gaultier’s creations, in the form of a figure hugging dress, carry the same principle as the works of artist, bringing a real irreverent, creative and interesting touch to a look. After all, who doesn't want to unravel an optical illusion?
With the designer’s recent final show and departure from the fashion world, this nostalgic trend is only expected to last for longer. As for Kim Kardashian, this is not the first time she has dipped her toes into the Gaultier archives as of late. The celebrity icon wore a similar sheer dress to the People’s Choice Awards in 2018, and tattoo-printed tops and leggings the following year.
In a world of Instagram filters and photoshop, this fashion work of op art may perhaps be the most befitting trend of our current digital age.
Among the names that have worn this retina-distorting pattern are: Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Charli XCX and Vanessa Hudgens. Check out the images and fall in love!
