‘Short n' Sweet’ is a playful showcase of Sabrina Carpenter's charisma and authenticity. In her sixth studio album, the singer-songwriter blends humour-infused pop with a diverse range of sonic textures. Carpenter navigates the full spectrum of relationship experiences, from the initial spark to the heartbreak that follows, with both honesty and flair.

Each track offers its own unique flavor, making the album a rich and varied listening experience. Whether you're drawn to the country-tinged charm of ‘Slim Pickins’ or the playful energy of ‘Juno,’ there’s a song here that speaks to everyone.

While it features the infectious energy of ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please Please Please,’ the album also offers more laid-back moments reminiscent of its predecessor, ‘Emails I Can't Send,’ showcasing Carpenter's versatility with mellow guitar and acoustic sounds.

The opening track, ‘Taste,’ set to have a music video starring Carpenter and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega, carries a certain angst as Carpenter sings about sweet revenge: "I heard you're back together and if that's true, you'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you."

Another standout track, the provocative ‘Bed Chem,’ features a sensual, groovy production. Carpenter's playful delivery of lines like, “Who's the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent? Like, maybe it's all in my head,” adds a flirty vibe as she sings about the undeniable chemistry between her and her lover.

Meanwhile, ‘Dumb & Poetic’ contrasts with the album's whimsy, offering a glimpse of Carpenter's vulnerability. In this heart-wrenching track, she reflects on the hardships of a past relationship: “You're so dumb and poetic. It's just what I fall for, I like the aesthetic… Don’t think you understand, just 'cause you talk like one doesn’t make you a man.”

The closing track, ‘Don’t Smile,’ cleverly reinterprets the popular saying “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” Carpenter flips the sentiment, singing about the aftermath of a breakup: "Don't smile because it happened, baby. Cry because it's over. Oh, you're supposed to think about me every time you hold her.”

‘Short n' Sweet’ is a vivid representation of the glitz and glamour of Carpenter’s popstar persona. The album showcases her clever and honest songwriting, infused with cheekiness and self-deprecating humor, making it both relatable and feel-good. This record is just the beginning of what we can expect from the singer as she continues to refine and develop the distinctive sound she’s created for herself.

"I feel extremely lucky that each time I write a new record I learn a little bit more about myself, and can create from that place. The making of Short n’ Sweet was one of the most special, honest, up-and-down, stupid, and fun experiences of my life. I thought if something was funny enough to make me laugh, then maybe it belonged in a song, happy or sad,” she shares on Instagram.
