Park Seo-Joon & Han So-hee Share Behind-the-Scenes Stories of ‘Gyeongseong Creature’
The Netflix thriller series stars Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee and Wi Ha-joon.
The cast of Netflix’s upcoming K-drama Gyeongseong Creature held a press conference for the show last night, with actors Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, Soo Hyun, Kim Hae-sook, Jo Han-chul, and director Jung Dong-yoon in attendance. The horror and action-themed drama is set to be released in two waves, with the first part coming out on December 22, and the second on January 5 on Netflix.
Gyeongseong Creature is a period drama set in 1945. It follows the lead characters Jang Tae-sang and Yun Chae-ok as they embark on a perilous journey into Ong-seong Hospital, a dangerous building shrouded in mystery. Park Seo-joon’s character is Jang Tae-sang, a wealthy man who has worked hard to become the owner of Geumokdang pawnshop, while Han So-hee plays Yun Chae-ok, who is desperately searching for her mother, after her disappearance 10 years ago. Actors Wi Ha-joon (who did not attend the press conference), Soo Hyun, Kim Hae-sook and Jo Han-chul play supporting roles in this highly-anticipated series.
Seen through the web series’ trailer, Gyeongseong Creature is a highly stylised production, with a lot of effort put in by the production team to create a complete visual aesthetic to match the themes of the drama. On this, Park Seo-joon commented, “We put a lot of thought into creating a stylish look, from the costume to various authentic details. I believe the first impression of the drama will be its overall look.” He continued, “I hope the audience will appreciate the cool look we've crafted with so much dedication.”
During the filming of the drama, it was reported that Han So-hee had accidentally injured her face, concerning her fans. She took the time during the press conference yesterday to give her account of what happened. The 29-year-old actress said, “I got hurt because I was being too greedy. In action scenes, injuries are not exclusive to me; the stunt team and actors participating in the action scenes get hurt too. It’s fortunate if you don’t get hurt, but it’s an environment where you can’t do action sequences without getting hurt. Everyone approaches the filming with sincerity.
“One thing I overlooked was not distinguishing between what I could and couldn’t do. I think if I had made that distinction, I could have avoided the injury,” she stated. She further assured fans by saying, “Risking everything doesn’t mean I could do it. I regret that I interrupted the filming. But now, I’m okay. I got hurt because I was too ambitious to do well, so I hope you don’t worry too much.”
Aside from the action scenes to be expected in Gyeongseong Creature, the cast then carried on to discuss the nuanced, restrained romance that will bloom between Jang Tae-sang and Yun Chae-ok. Han So-hee shared, “Chae-ok and Tae-sang had things they needed to protect, which necessitated their restraint.” Park Seo-joon also went on to share that the pair’s chemistry built up naturally, stating, “Initially, we didn't have many scenes together, which made me increasingly curious. But when we finally did meet, I felt like saying, 'I've missed you, So-hee.' Some emotions built up as we delved into scenes that required a lot of thought and preparation.”
