Rachel and Ross could have been a real life couple! If you were a fan of Friends, you may have hoped that the two lovelorn characters would be together after so much history. After all, the chemistry between the two was indisputable, and one of the reasons for this could be the fact that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer had a crush on each other off screen — something revealed during the special episode of “Friends: The Reunion” that recently aired in the United States.

Presenter James Corden commented that it was inconceivable to him that possibly an off-camera romance had not happened. Jennifer's reaction was, "Well... David?", So Schwimmer talked about it.

"In the first season, I had a huge crush on Jen," said Schwimmer. Aniston responded by saying that it was mutual. But the actors never actually entered a relationship.

"At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship," Schwimmer added. "And we never crossed that boundary. We respected that."

Aniston also said that she and Schwimmer would talk about whether their first kiss would be in character. She revealed a conversation she had with David before Rachel and Ross's first kiss on the show. "Honestly, I remember saying one time to David, 'It's going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television. Sure enough, first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. We just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel," explained the actress.

Schwimmer went on to say, "When we had breaks from rehearsal, there were moments we would cuddle on the couch," he adds. "We would spoon and fall asleep on the couch and I kept thinking, how did not everyone know we were crushing on each other?"

Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey, said that the cast definitely knew.
