Here’s What We Know About Blackpink’s Major Documentary Coming To Netflix
Netflix has found a way to fuel our ongoing Blackpink obsession, and we aren’t complaining. The streaming giant has announced a documentary focused on the K-pop girl group that will premiere on October 14.
Titled Blackpink: Light Up The Sky, the documentary will follow members of the girl group -- Jennie, Lisa, Rosé and Jisoo and their recording process and everyday lives as K-pop stars, chronicling their meteoric rise to global fame. It will also include their history-making performance at last year’s Coachella festival, where they were the first Kpop girl group to ever perform at the popular music festival.
Certainly testament to the evergrowing power of K-Pop, here’s what else we know about the upcoming documentary so far.
It is directed by Caroline Suh
...Who previously directed Salt Fat Acid Heat, a cooking documentary series on Netflix.
“Director Caroline Suh’s trusted relationship with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa offers organic and honest moments that give viewers an authentic inside look into the lives of BLACKPINK, as well as the dedication and gruelling preparation each member puts into every hit song, history-making performance, and sold-out arena tour,” said Adam Del Deo, Netflix’s vice president of documentary features, in a press release.
There will be never-before-seen archive footage of the group
This will contain footage during their trainee days under YG Entertainment’s pop-star academy, that will detail their hard work and dedication behind their meteoric rise. The documentary will also feature exclusive in-depth interviews with each member of the group.
Their music icons will become Netflix profile icons
As part of the premiere, on October 14, you can now use their music icons as part of your profile icon, because why not?
In the meantime, you can look forward to Blackpink’s first studio album, THE ALBUM, which is scheduled for digital release on October 2. The girls have already hit the Billboard Hot 100 in the US this year with their Selena Gomez Collab, “Ice Cream,” and on “Sour Candy” with Lady Gaga.
BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky is directed by Caroline Suh, produced by Cara Mones, and executive produced by Jon Kamen, David Sirulnick and Zara Duffy at RadicalMedia. It will release on Netflix globally on October 14.
