Gucci Chime: Beyoncé, Salma Hayek and More for Gender Equality
This year's Gucci Chime campaign saw celebrities advocating for gender equality in a video series
Although it's been years since Gucci Chime – a decade-long commitment to gender equality – was founded, much still needs to be done in the area.
"We reflect on the profound impact and influence the campaign has had on so many lives, through the tireless work and commitment of people around the world who fight for change every day," says Gucci's President and CEO Marco Bizzarri. "This is a journey that we embarked on ten years ago, but the work ahead of us is substantial. Today, we recommit ourselves to the next decade of progress and positive change."
This year, Gucci Chime goes strong with its continued adherence to "championing the next generation of change", with help from co-founders Beyoncé and Salma Hayek, and friends of the house Florence Welch, Julia Roberts, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Bailey, Idris Elba, Julia Garner, Alia Bhatt, Annie Lennox, Serena Williams, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jodie Turner-Smith, and more in a new video series directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Gucci also hosted a global concert in 2013 – titled 'The Sound of Change: Live'. Held at Twickenham Stadium in London, the lineup featured a series of big acts, including Beyoncé, Florence Welch, John Legend, and Jennifer Lopez to push and raise funds for gender equality and prompt global change. In total, the concert was broadcasted to one billion viewers and raised $3.9 million in support of the campaign, adding to the $21.5 million already raised by Gucci Chime then.
"It has been incredible for me to have the opportunity to meet people around the world and see firsthand the impact the campaign has had on so many lives," says co-founder and actress Salma Hayek. "I’m overwhelmed and inspired by how many people want to participate in the change, and I feel very hopeful for the future. It’s really a fight worth having, now, more than ever."
