Original, June 10, 2024:
Dahyun of popular K-pop girl group TWICE is entering her actress era and she's kicking it off by starring in an upcoming Korean remake of the beloved 2011 Taiwanese romance film, You Are The Apple Of My Eye. ONCE were naturally ecstatic upon hearing the news and now we have our first glimpse of Dahyun in this coming-of-age story alongside her co-star, Jung Jin-young. You may know Jung from his role in Netflix's hit Sweet Home series as Private Park Chan-young, a soldier in the Guard Corps. This time, he transforms into a bright-eyed high school student alongside, Dahyun and we've got our first look at the two stars in their respective roles below!
When the original Taiwanese film first debut in the box-office in 2011, the teen romance film was not just a hit in Taiwan but in Singapore too, becoming the highest-grossing Asian film that year. It also broke the previous record of the highest opening weekend for a Taiwanese film, a feat that was previously held by mega-hit 2007 film starring Jay Chou, Secret.
The coming-of-age story revolves around popular model student, Shen Chia-yi and resident delinquent and troublemaker, Ko Ching-teng and their unlikely friendship and deep connection — Following the two over their high school years and beyond as they navigate love, life and hardships. Filled with both light-hearted and heartbreaking moments, the slice-of-life romance was a hit due to its relatability and honest look at how first loves can be bittersweet.
In the Korean remake, Dahyun will be taking the role of Seon-ah (Shen Chia-yi) while Jung Jin-young will play Jin-woo (Ko Ching-teng). On her debut role, Dahyun had this to say, "It is an honour to be able to greet viewers through the big screen with a great project. I am very excited, and I will work hard to produce a great project with the best collaboration with my senior actors." Jung echoed her sentiments and recognised how beloved the original film is, saying, "I am happy to have been cast in a project that I have affection for. I will do my best to convey the emotions of the original film."
Filming for the movie began earlier this month by Studio Take and Jayuro Pictures and will likely release in 2025.
