A First Glimpse into Persona: Sulli, the Late K-pop Idol’s Final Work
The posthumous film delves into the multitudinous existence of f(x) member Sulli.
Netflix just unveiled the trailer for Persona: Sulli, the last piece of work featuring the late K-pop idol Sulli. The trailer offers an intense closer look into the film starring the cherished singer. Sulli, beloved as a member of the SM Entertainment girl group f(x), took her own life in 2019. The singer and actress from South Korea, whose real name was Choi Jin-ri, debuted in the entertainment industry as a child actress but found fame as an idol with the five-member band.
With Persona: Sulli, fans will finally get a last glimpse into the idol’s life, through two distinct sections of the film. The first section titled 4: Clean Island is a drama that follows the journey of a pig named 4, as it travels to a famed, immaculate heaven on earth called Clean Island. But before 4 can get there, it is required to confess to all the sins it has committed in its lifetime. The drama stars Sulli, reprising her role once again as an actress, alongside Hwang Min-young and Park Gabi.
The second segment of Persona: Sulli is a documentary, that showcases at once the different sides of the idol as we knew her. The documentary Dear Jinri breaks into the different selves that existed within her, as Choi Jin-ri, the human being, and as Sulli, an artist living in the spotlight. Sulli, through Dear Jinri, underscores the stark differences as well as the nuanced moments that split her identity into two parts. The intimate nature of the documentary provides never-before-seen insight into the workings and psyche of both Sulli and Choi Jin-ri.
Persona: Sulli will premiere on Netflix on November 13.
