Get to Know the Cast of Disney+’s Latest K-Drama ‘Soundtrack #2’
This new original romance series stars Keum Sae-rok, Noh Sang-hyun and Sohn Jeong-hyuck.
After the success of Soundtrack #1 starring Park Hyung-sik and Han So-hee, Disney+ has unveiled Soundtrack #2, the indirect sequel series to the original drama. With similar elements but a whole new plot, Soundtrack #2 sees the storytelling of new characters Do Hyeon-seo, Ji Su-ho and K, and how their musical paths intertwine.
Soundtrack #2 features Keum Sae-rok, Noh Sang-hyun as well as Sohn Jeong-hyuck, who is making his acting debut with the romance series. Kim Hee-won, who directed Soundtrack #1, is back, taking charge of the second season alongside director Choi Jung-gyu. Hyeon-seo, played by Keum Sae-rok, is a talented pianist whose dreams of being a musician are dashed due to the realities of life, while Noh Sang-hyun’s character, Su-ho, is a young, workaholic CEO who is forced to take a break from his busy life. Sohn Jeong-hyuck’s role K is an up-and-coming music creator whose talents catch the eye of Su-ho.
During the show’s recent press conference, the leading actors and the directors got together to share behind-the-scenes tidbits regarding the drama. Given the title of the show, there was naturally a lot of discussion surrounding the cast members’ ability to play the instruments featured in the series. Keum Sae-rok revealed that she had never played the piano in her life, prior to her role as a piano teacher in Soundtrack #2, so learning the basics of the instrument was a new challenge for her.
The actress shared, “The preparation period for piano playing was quite short for me, so I don't think I did the best that I could [if the preparation period had been longer]. But what’s important is your posture and the way you put your fingers on the piano, ‘cause it really shows if you’re good at playing the piano or not.” She continued, “Director Kim is actually a really good piano player, and she would just play the piano [on set] because she loves playing it so much. So I would always go to see her and watch her play the piano, and sometimes Director Kim would compliment me, saying “Hey, your shoulders look more relaxed today!””.
There was also a lot of excitement surrounding Sohn Jeong-hyuck, who is making his first foray into the acting world with Soundtrack #2. Sohn Jeong-hyuck, who initially debuted as a singer-songwriter in 2020 under the stage name Demian, was handpicked by Choi Jung-gyu after his audition. The director loved his honesty and naivete so much that he immediately wanted to cast him. During the press conference, the talented young actor took to the stage, delivering a live performance of the drama’s theme song.
Brought about by feel-good themes, the directors for Soundtrack #2 both shared that the drama tells the story of a classic love triangle. Rather than break the mould for the sake of it, this drama captures the intricate emotions and moments of a complicated love through nuanced directing, the artistry of music and the acting abilities of its star cast.
The first two episodes of Soundtrack #2 are available to stream on Disney+ now.
