Britney Spears and Jamie Lynn’s Feud Might Have Just Reached a Cease-Fire

Amid the very public feud between Britney and Jamie Lynn since late 2021, things finally seem to be looking up.

After her 13-year conservatorship was put to an end in November last year, pop star Britney Spears has not been shy about her wish for justice against her family. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Britney posted a text card saying: “Never forget who ignored you when you needed them and who helped you before you even had to ask.”

She then went on to caption the post with: “There’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support… there’s nothing worse than that.” Many fans put two and two together and came to a realisation that Britney was talking about her younger sister, Jamie Lynn – who had still been silent about Britney’s conservatorship then. It also didn't help that Britney unfollowed her younger sister during the time of conflict.

“How dare the people you love the most say anything at all… did they even put a hand out to even lift me up at the TIME," she continued in her rant. “How dare you make it public that NOW you CARE… did you put your hand out when I was drowning ????”

Since then, Britney and Jamie Lynn have participated in a public back-and-forth feud, airing out their respective grievances; Britney claiming that Jamie Lynn never once made her feel supported during her treatment in the conservatorship and Jamie Lynn stating that she’s always supported her, “long before there was a hashtag” (see #FreeBritney).

On January 12th this year, Jamie Lynn took to ABC News to share her side of the story while promoting her memoir ‘Things I Should Have Said’. When asked about her thoughts of Britney’s win last November, Jamie Lynn said she was really happy about the outcome. “When it was put into place, I was 17 years old. I was about to have a baby, so I didn't understand what was happening. Nor was I focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was a 17-year-old about to have a baby. I understand just as little about it then as I do now,” says the author.

“I've always been my sister's biggest supporter,” she continues. “So when she needed help, I set up ways to do so. Went out of my way to make sure that she had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship and just end this all for our family. If it's going to cause this much discord, why continue it?”

The younger sister also got vulnerable about her love for Britney, despite her accusations. “That love is still there – 100 percent. I love my sister,” shares Jamie Lynn. “I've only ever loved and supported her and done what's right by her, and she knows that, so I don't know why we're in this position right now.”

Four days after the interview aired, Britney headed to Twitter to share her response to Jamie Lynn’s revelations in a series of text posts. In them, she revealed that she’s always loved her and deemed their public feud as “tacky,” but not before she addressed some points her sister brought up in the interview.

“I think we would both have to agree to the fact that the family has never been remotely as hard on you as they have been on me,” says Britney. “What Dad did to me, they don't even do that to criminals... so for you to sit back and act completely aloof to what has happened to me is honestly insane to me!!!”

She goes on to share her disappointment with her sister and brother, Bryan, at their lack of support during the 13 years. “I think the thing that saddens me the most is that when this all happened to me and when I called you from that place... you would take days to respond!!! I never got to talk to you!!! You would just text me days later and I was so scared... I needed you... my family, my blood and your support more than anything!!! You guys did absolutely nothing UNTIL a year ago!!!"

"I said something on Instagram and you and Bryan showed up at my house... because of an Instagram post!!! THAT makes me the saddest.... why???? Because I needed you WAYYYYYY before that and the fact that you and Bryan showed up laughing at my gate instead of KNOWING you should have been here way before that makes me very sad!!!”

Although a lot of clearly unresolved emotions have been dumped on each other, things seem to be looking up for the sisters – with declarations of love from both. Following Britney’s tweets, Jamie Lynn responded on her Instagram story with pleas to resolve their issues in private. “Britney – Just call me, I have attempted many times to speak to you directly and handle this privately like sisters should, but you still choose to do everything on a public platform,” she captions.

“In the meantime, please stop continuing the narrative that I haven't been there for you or that I'm making things up. I'm happy to share how many times I've reached out to you, supported you and tried to help you. This is embarrassing and has to stop. I love you.”

Only time will tell if things ever get better for the Spears sisters.
