Look, we get it. Skincare might not be your top priority when planning for a trip. As it’s tricky to consider all the little details when transiting from city to city, we've prepared a guide to the quintessential skincare steps you can’t skip out on, and how to make them travel-friendly.

Chances are, wherever you’re headed is drier than our humid little island, so it’s important to keep the moisture levels in your skin up. Starting with your cleanser, pick one that doesn’t strip away too much of your skin’s natural oils. You don’t want to start off with an already-parched complexion before you even begin your skincare routine.

As for the toner, restore balance with a pH-balancing toner that can help your skin regulate its pH levels. When you travel between different climates, your skin naturally reacts and responds to them. But that pH imbalance in the skin can cause dehydration and unnecessary breakouts that could ruin your vacation photos.

Onto the all-important hydration of the skin, don’t be afraid to lather on more moisturiser than normal. Airplane rides are notorious for their extremely dry environments, not to mention the germs that are trapped in the plane with you, so you can never be too moisturised while on the go. You can incorporate emollients and humectants to retain and add more dew to your skin. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even wear an overnight hydrating mask during the flight to really seal it in.

The lips are often neglected. In new climates, your lips can easily become cracked and sore, even if the air around you doesn’t feel intensely dry. The lips can be quite sensitive to dry environments, so it’s vital to choose a lip balm that you know can effectively keep your pout looking plush and healthy throughout your trip. And don’t forget to reapply once you feel the lip balm wearing off!

That being said, it’s tough to pack light with all these steps in mind when you’re travelling. You don’t want to lug around all of your full-sized skincare goodies or have any pressure-related accidents taking place in your luggage as they journey to meet you at your destination. As such, we recommend purchasing little travel-size bottles from your nearest beauty supply store. All that’s left to do is to fill them up. You can even buy little spray bottles for any mists or perfumes in your beauty regimen.

You can also look into multitasking products to cut down on any excessive loads. We like facial mists that both lock in moisture and set the day’s makeup, like Caudalie's Beauty Elixir, which won Multitasking Skincare And Makeup Item in L’Officiel Singapore's Beauty Awards this November. If not, you can also invest in acid-based exfoliating moisturisers that can get rid of dead skin cells while providing a lush moisture barrier for your skin.

Now, you and your skin are ready to travel, worry-free!
