Fall 2016's Best Candles: Bougie Wonderland
Scent is perhaps one of the best mood setters available to us. As the year draws to a close (and the weather correspondingly cooler, allowing for festive scents) we’re looking to take stock of the season’s best scented candles to flavour the air with. These are candles you’ll want to burn.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
A great statement tabletop piece, if ever there were one. The very popular Tobacco Vanille scent from Tom Ford’s Private Blend line is interpreted in his new line of home candles. The heady and intoxicating candle ($376) comes with a hefty metal cover the brand is calling an objet d’art.
The Tom Ford Private Blend candle collection is available at Tom Ford Beauty counters (Tangs at Tang Plaza and Robinsons Raffles City) and the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Diptyque Sapin
Diptyque’s festive specials are illustrated this year by longtime collaborator Pierre Marie. This year’s ‘Un Nuit Chez Diptyque’ (a night with Diptyque) includes Sapin ($105), an intoxicatingly lush pine, cedar and fir forest of green.
Byredo Bibliotheque
The bookish name of Bibliotheque ($111) hides a surprisingly fresh and floral scent. Peaches, plums, peonies, violets and leather form a charming bouquet ode to the smell of books
Memo Sexy St. Tropez
Need a little help dreaming up a beach getaway? Enter the tuberose and champagne stylings of the perfectly named Sexy St Tropez ($91) by Memo. If you’re the kind who celebrates the festivities early and can’t let it go past January, this candle will do the trick of conjuring an escapist locale.
Byredo Altar
Ben Gorham, founder of the Stockholm-based fragrance brand, has looked to his Catholic upbringing to inspire a range of ‘Saints Collection’ candles. Altar ($162) is the warmest of the lot, with clove buds, ylang ylang and vetiver.
Though bougie parfumée are great, music is an equally good mood maker. If you’ll excuse the pun – have a boogie while you look at bougies!
Cire Trudon, Diptyque, Byredo and Memo are available at escentials Paragon.
