We already know that mental health is linked to a number of things, like our skin, so it is not surprising that at this moment, when our routines have had major changes,  and the news cycle continues to be plagued with distressing news, that many people may be suffering from stress acne.

To deal with this, we reached out to a real skincare guru, Renée Rouleau,  the beautician of powerful names like Lili Reinhart and Demi Lovato. Check out her tips below on achieving healthy and clear skin!

Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliating the skin is an essential step for those who want to avoid acne, as it is at that moment when dead cells are removed. But, it is necessary to be careful not to overdo this process, in an interview with Hello Giggles Renée says that if your skin feels overly dry skin, it is a sign of over exfoliation.

There are two types of exfoliants, chemical and physical. She recommends using a chemical exfoliator three times a week and a physical exfoliator twice a week.

Moisturize your skin well

The skin needs water and moisture to be healthy, so you need to maintain a hydration routine for your skin, otherwise it will generate its own oil. "The oil generates bacteria, and this bacteria leads to acne, so the goal is to make the skin produce less oil," says Rouleau. For people with oily skin, she recommends an oil-free moisturizer.

Use a topical anti-microbial

If your skin is showing signs of acne, including a product with an antimicrobial effect in your care routine is essential, as they can reduce the presence of fungi and bacteria. "Creating an antimicrobial effect on the skin will create an environment where less breakouts is likely to thrive," he says. For best results, use a few times a week to decongest pores and keep skin even-toned.
