Yes, Emily Ratajkowski is definitely someone who falls under the category of "genetically blessed". But like the rest of us mortals, she still has to work hard to look her best, from keeping up with regular exercise to following an impeccable skincare regimen.

The secret to her flawless, glowing complexion? As revealed by Ratajkowski herself on Instagram Stories, the star ingredient in her skincare routine is... Snail mucin. Otherwise known as the slime snails leave behind when they move across the ground.

The model and entrepreneur added the ingredient to her arsenal after her skin "freaked out at the beginning of quarantine", and she now uses it in combination with a gentle cleanser, replenishing serum, and retinol.

If the thought of putting snail slime on your face is making you feel squeamish, you might be comforted by the fact that snail mucin is actually a very popular ingredient in the beauty industry, especially in K-beauty.

Rich in hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, and copper peptides, and boasting natural antimicrobial properties, snail mucin is touted to repair skin damage, even out skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation, and boost collagen and elastin production for firmer and more youthful skin. It can also help with acne, but is suitable for all skin types.

As for the exact product that Ratajkowski relies on, it's the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence from Korean beauty brand COSRX, which is formulated with 96% snail secretion for maximum benefits. Don't worry, the essence doesn't feel particularly slimy, nor does it have an unappealing scent, so you won't even know it comes from snails.
