Emily Ratajkowski Announces Her Pregnancy On Instagram
Congratulations are in order for Emily Ratajkowski! Just hours ago, the model and entrepreneur announced that she is pregnant with her first child via an intimate video posted to Instagram and directed by Lena Dunham.
Entitled Who Will You Be?, the short film features self-captured footage of Ratajkowski — nude at the doctor's office and at home with her growing baby bump, in the bathtub and alongside her dog, Colombo.
Dunham is a close friend of Ratajkowski and her husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard (Dunham has known Bear-McClard since she was three). The two women met when Dunham interviewed EmRata for her podcast Women of the Hour. Both are outspoken advocates of women's rights and have penned essays about their personal experiences as women in the entertainment industry.
Jotting down her thoughts on becoming a mother in a personal essay written for an American magazine, Ratajkowski also explains why she and her husband will endeavour to force as few gender stereotypes on their child as possible.
"When my husband and I tell friends that I'm pregnant, their first question after 'Congratulations' is almost always 'Do you know what you want?' We like to respond that we won't know the gender until our child is 18 and that they'll let us know then," Ratajkowski writes. "Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who — rather than what — is growing inside my belly. Who will this person be? What kind of person will we become parents to? How will they change our lives and who we are? This is a wondrous and terrifying concept, one that renders us both helpless and humbled."
