Behind the Scenes at Dior Homme Winter 2018/2019
As the Dior Homme Winter 2018 show at Paris Fashion Week has demonstrated, you cannot put an age on style.
This season, Creative Director Kris Van Assche explored the duality of youth and age through his latest menswear collection for the Maison — aptly titled “Forever Young”. As an homage to Christian Dior’s flair for intricate pattern-making, the signature Dior Homme suit was meticulously deconstructed. The iconic bar jacket was transformed into a sculpted suit jacket that featured everything from slotted lapels and patch pockets to double-breasted officer’s buttons.
The collection wasn't just all stuffy sophistication, though. Van Assche added a dose of edginess by throwing back to the tattoo culture of the 1990s. A spiked tattoo motif was the key element of the collection, appearing either as a bold statement on the front of a jacket or as an all-over print on buttoned shirts.
The theme of old-meets-new was reflected in Van Assche's casting decision as well, who called on the male supermodels of the Nineties to walk the runway. The show starred the likes of Arnaud Lemaire, Mark Vanderloo, James Rousseau and Alain Gossuin, and was opened by British-Iranian heartthrob Cameron Alborzian.
