Childhood Dreams with Louis Vuitton Men’s 2023 Spring/Summer Show

A giant toy racetrack was roused for the French maison’s final swan song for Virgil Abloh.

Conceived by Louis Vuitton Studio Prêt-à-Porter Homme, the House’s Spring/Summer show was the cumulative vision of the team – as a grand tribute to Virgil Abloh’s expansion and direction during his tenure as Artistic Director at the brand’s menswear wing. The presentation took place on a mega-sized build of a car racetrack from childhood playtimes, complete with the essential loop. The racetrack symbolises the Yellow-Brick Road to imagination and evolution, informed by each of our experiences and building blocks from playtime, through the creativity of Louis Vuitton Men’s Ready-to-Wear team.

The Men’s Studio at the luxury brand envisaged arts and craft, as well as sound to be paramount to the magnified playground of the show. A sensorial connection to the show’s sound system, two SpeakerMan looks walked down the runway with wireless speakers, a walking display of the Homme team’s love for loud music.

A spectacle of French romanticism and florals – this collection is a bouquet of tapestries and prints. Thistles also found their place in the collection through embroidery, prints and fabric weaves, as a symbol of resilience and a nod to the maison’s ancestral home in Asnières where thistles are abundant.

Almost surrealist in nature, the pieces in the collection feature supersized paper aeroplanes and vibrant pendants that mimic the playful energy of building blocks. Handcrafted techniques also take centre stage – see intricate crochet, beading and embroidery detailing. And strides in technology pave the way for static electricity fabrics and 3D printing.
