Let's cut to the chase: It's two weeks to Valentine's Day. And as ashamed as we are to succumb to the marketing ploys of capitalism, restaurants are filling up as you read this – and on the most romantic day of the year, just any old place won't do.

Here, we've made things easy: Five romantic restaurants that will tick all the boxes.

There are few sights as spectacular as our Marina Bay skyline. At rooftop restaurant and bar Me@OUE, you get to appreciate a panaromic view of the bay in all its glory.

Just for Valentine's Day, executive chef Sam has designed two special menus featuring beautifully plated dishes like foie gras, lobster and a lychee and rose dessert. Dine at sunset with the five-course menu at 6pm, or, if city lights are more your thing, at 8.30pm with an eight-course menu. After dinner, adjourn outdoors to the rooftop bar for a few cocktails and take in more of the picturesque view.

Scallop Carpaccio
Tagliatelle Carbonara

Caffé B

Unlike most of the rowdier restos and bars along Club Street, Caffé B is almost like a quiet retreat, despite its impressive 170-seater venue which spans three floors.

For the most intimate experience, book a table on the top floor, which has its own entrance. Otherwise, the cosy-chic chairs on the second floor make for a nice laidback dinner date too.

Japanese Italian dishes are on the menu here, with crowd favourites like scallop carpaccio and tagliatalle carbonara. Pair the food with creative cocktails like Ume Gin and Sake Cucumber.

Chopsuey Cafe

Contrary to popular belief, Chinese food can be romantic too. Chopsuey Cafe on Dempsey Hill does some classic Asian dishes with a twist –think of it as classy zi char. And the place is breathtakingly beautiful too; high ceilings, black and white colonial style decor and a view looking out to vast greenery create a lush and relaxed ambience.

The great thing about Valentine's Day falling around the Lunar New Year season is diners get to order off the special celebratory menu. For a healthier, refreshing take on yu sheng, Chopsuey does a version with kale, radish, blueberries, ocean trout and a sour calamansi dressing.

Other dishes to try are the Lemongrass and Lime Poached Barramundi, which is light and fresh and the Truffled Rice Chicken ‘Sausage’ filled with Jasmine and glutinous rice and bacon and drizzled with truffle oil.

Don't miss the bespoke seasonal cocktails Lucky Puppy,  which is a blend of Monkey Shoulder whisky, Martini Rosso and Cointreau, as well as Hanky Panky, which is a blend of Hendrick’s Gin, Martini Rosso and a dash of Fernet Branca.
