Luxury Beach Resort Datai Langkawi Gets a New Look
One of the most popular hotels in Southeast Asia, Datai Langkawi reveals its new face after a year of renovation.
The cult address has been renewed with a harmonious modernisation while allowing it to remain faithful to its identity that made it an icon. The project was led by Didier Lefort of award-winning Paris-based design studio DL2A, who along with Australian architect Kerry Hill, was responsible for the original designs of the hotel some 25 years ago.
Nestled on a 10 million year old virgin rainforest and bordered by the translucent waters of the Andaman Sea, the 121-room hotel is perfectly integrated with the lush vegetation and enjoys an exceptional location.
Divided into three families – Canopy, Rainforest or Beach collection – of luxury accommodation, Datai Langkawi offers an immersive experience in the heart of nature, with unparalleled privacy. A constant opening on the natural elements reinforced by the use of local materials and a palette of hues evoking the local flora.
At the summit of sophistication and authenticity, the hotel attracts lovers of luxury and lovers of nature in search of a preserved place: imagined by the famous naturalist Irshad Mobarak, the new Nature Centre invites its guests to discover the wildlife and local flora, in dedicated laboratories or during fun and enriching discoveries. The Datai Langkawi also places sustainable development at the heart of its concept: upon their arrival, guests are given stainless steel water bottles, which replace the plastic bottles during excursions. The local Permaculture Garden produces its own organic fruit and vegetables that are served at the four restaurants in the area, and bamboo straws have replaced plastic ones for beverages.
