The POLY MGM MUSEUM in Macau is the Quintessence of Chinese Culture
Discover the relics of the historic Maritime Silk Road in the museum's inaugural exhibition.
Located on the second floor of MGM MACAU, the newly opened POLY MGM MUSEUM is set to become the latest hotspot for traditional Chinese culture. The 2,000sqm space is a joint effort between Poly Culture, a Chinese state-owned enterprise focused on cultural and artistic projects, and MGM, with the goal of preserving the excellence of traditional Chinese culture and showcasing the beauty of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
Immediately, the museum pays homage to traditional Chinese craftsmanship through its design. Details like the grandeur of the lobby to the dougong design exemplify Chinese architectural splendour and excellence. Those are layered with state-of-the-art multimedia installations to provide an immersive, multi-sensorial experience.
The inaugural exhibition for the POLY MGM MUSEUM is titled “The Maritime Silk Road — Discover the Mystical Seas and Encounter the Treasures of the Ancient Trade Route” and is themed around — you guessed it — the historic trade routes connecting the East to the West. Over 200 artefacts and artworks sourced from nearly 20 national museums and international organisations are spread across four zones: Monsoon, Cultural Origin, Integration and Connections. Highlights include four bronze zodiac heads from Beijing’s Old Summer Palace, and a tapestry depicting scenes from the Trojan War.
Admission to the POLY MGM MUSEUM is free, and visitors are encouraged to book their visit online in advance. Tickets are also available at the door on a first come, first served basis.
