Explore the Crossroads of Humanity, Technology and Art at S.E.A Focus 2024
Presenting works from 22 galleries and over 40 artists on the evolving landscape of artistic expression in an increasingly digital age.
S.E.A. Focus is set to return during Singapore Art Week 2024 from 20 to 28 January. For its sixth appearance, the homegrown annual showcase and platform for Southeast Asian contemporary art will explore the interplay between humanity, technology and art — a topic that has generated tremendous discourse in this past year.
Titled Serial and Massively Parallel, the exhibition will feature artworks from 22 galleries and over 40 artists worldwide. Visitors will get to experience more large-scale and off-the-wall creations that reflect Southeast Asian creativity and consider the human condition amid digital advancements, as curator John Tung’s selection poses questions about the evolving landscape of artistic expression in an increasingly digital age. “As digital technologies and artificial intelligence increasingly makes its mark on our lived experience, the upcoming edition of S.E.A. Focus offers an opportune moment to think of its role and function amidst contemporary arts ecology,” he says.
The presentation will include works from Southeast Asian art world sensations like Singapore’s Aiman, Filipino installation artist Poklong Anading, Thai independent film director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Indonesia-based visual artist Mella Jaarsma and Malaysia’s Tan Zi Hao.
Alongside the main exhibition, S.E.A. Focus 2024 will see the return of signature programmes like SEAspotlight Talks and OFF Focus. The former is a series of panel discussions with art thought leaders, and the latter a film screening programme curated by Objectifs, a non-profit arts space dedicated to photography and film.
