Play Your Part for Earth Hour on March 26th

Show your support for Earth Hour by taking part in WWF-Singapore’s lights-out movement at 8.30 pm tomorrow, Singapore time.

It’s that time of year again – the annual Earth Hour is back. If you’re not already familiar with WWF-Singapore’s lights-out movement, Singaporeans can show their support for protecting the planet by switching off the lights in their homes for a whole hour. The goal? To create a low carbon, climate-resilient country.

This year’s nationwide event will be held at 8.30 pm on the 26th of March, and many establishments and landmarks like the Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Jewel Changi Airport and Singapore Flyer have already pledged to take part.

“With Singapore accelerating on the Green Plan 2030 agenda, it is encouraging to see increased participation from influential industry players and community groups taking a stand for nature at Earth Hour 2022,” says R.Raghunathan, CEO of WWF-Singapore. “WWF-Singapore has been working relentlessly on priority conservation issues such as climate change, PACT (Plastic ACTion), sustainable consumption and sustainable finance. I also look forward to seeing more stakeholders joining our Kosong Plan to make a personal Net Zero pledge at earthhour.sg.”

“Climate change risk is existential to us humans, to all other species and to our planet,” continues Victor Mills, Chief Executive of Singapore International Chamber of Commerce. “Earth Hour is not a gimmick. It is an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the actions each person, each business and each country needs to take to mitigate these risks in their own best interests. We only have one planet and we need to start respecting it. It sustains us and we must behave more sustainably to sustain it. The message is mutual assured co-existence rather than mutual assured destruction.”
