The Glenlivet’s Revolutionary New Way of Appreciating Age-Old Whisky

Talk about whisky with a twist.

What do you picture when you hear the word ‘whisky’? To most, it’s the depiction of middle-aged men enjoying their age-old poison in lavish jazz bars with cigars in hand for aesthetics. But what if we told you there’s a new way of enjoying the “posh” liquor in a casual, more familiar way? 

We’re talking bubble tea. Well, specifically the “boba” that comes with said tea. Though it may seem surprising for renowned (and honestly, traditional) whisky House The Glenlivet to be initiating this fun method of appreciating liquor, it seems they’ve surprised us yet again with their invention of edible cocktails.

“We were truly overwhelmed by the reaction to The Glenlivet Cocktail Capsule Collection and had no idea how ready the world was for this new whisky drinking experience,” explains  Miriam Eceolaza, Global Marketing Director of The Glenlivet about their latest collection. 

“Since the first launch, we’ve seen demand flood in from all over the globe for us to take this exciting innovation one step further. We listened, we learned, and we are excited to introduce the new and improved Cocktail Capsule Collection.”

The edible cocktail “pearls” come in four tasty flavours – the classic Old Fashioned and Whisky Sour, both made with The Glenlivet 12 Year Old, and the House’s own Paloma and The Last King cocktails made with The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve.

The tasting experience can only be described as interesting and reminiscent of the feeling you get when opting for popping pearls as toppings in your bubble tea. Albeit enjoyable, it is easy to get carried away when popping these cocktail-infused pearls in your mouth. Just like soju, the effects of the alcohol take a second to kick in. To make things easier, consider each cocktail capsule as a shot of whisky to refrain yourself from going zero to sixty in mere seconds.

To get your hands on The Glenlivet’s edible treats (a must-have, in our opinion), simply purchase a bottle of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve or The Glenlivet 12 Year Old on the Pernod Ricard store on Shopee from 28 February onwards. Each jar will contain 12 cocktail capsules. Do hurry as these jars are guaranteed to sell out fast due to their limited availability. 

However, if you’re not one for cocktail DIY and wish to try the capsules in a classy lounge somewhere with friends, the option to do so is also available. On 18 and 19 February, four masterclasses (worth $50 each) will be hosted by The Glenlivet Brand Ambassador, Anna Mitchell, at cocktail lounge Set of Six for patrons to try the new collection for themselves. Each ticket also includes two samples of The Glenlivet Single Malt, two cocktail capsules and food.
