A World of Colour Surrounds Van Cleef & Arpels’ Perlée Collection
The high jeweller reenvisions the Perlée collection with visual artists Arthur Hoffner and Erik Madigan Heck.
The golden bead motif so central to the Van Cleef & Arpels’ universe is reimagined through the eyes of Arthur Hoffner and Erik Madigan Heck – two creatives whose names are not unfamiliar to the brand.
The Perlée Collection is a classic line of the house's that has been integral to the Van Cleef & Arpels brand since its inception in 2008. Its light energy, helmed by the craftsmanship of the Maison, is underscored by the creative visions of Arthur Hoffner and Erik Madigan Heck. Designer Arthur Hoffner worked with the house to produce window displays, while photographer Erik Madigan Heck lensed a series of photographs in tribute to the collection’s vibrant tones.
Inspired by the lively movement of the Perlée Collection’s golden bead, Hoffner brought a myriad of window displays that play with balance and suspension to the Van Cleef & Arpels world. The visual artist’s interpretation of the Perlée Collection’s fun, pop elements is manifested through his colour-blocked vitrines, radiating a playful mood. A delicate balance of spheres, aluminium tubes, and blocks of marble take shape and transform into a playground of harmony.
Till 15th October, Hoffner’s displays will adorn the interior and exterior windows of Van Cleef & Arpels’ boutiques worldwide. His work for the Perlée Collection also inspired the development of a 3D animated film by the house, brought to life in collaboration with the artist.
With inspiration from '60s cut-out photography, Heck’s images for the Perlée Collection play on the iconic round motif of Perlée creations, which are the heart of the images. The golden bead is mirrored in the graphic decor, and colour-blocking becomes a central theme in his work, as in Hoffner’s displays. Taking on a modernist approach, Heck’s photographs evoke a fresh perspective on the jewellery that echoes the essence of fun in the Perlée jewellery.
Heck’s contemporary lens lends itself well to the jeweller's classic elegance. The sunny spirit of the Perlée collection shines through, inviting us to peruse the world of Van Cleef & Arpels, visually elucidated through Heck’s high-contrast portraits.
