Louis Vuitton's New Deep Time High Jewellery Collection Celebrates Earth's Natural Beauty
With exquisite gemstones and intricate designs, Chapter II continues the Deep Time Collection's story of planetary transformation and ever-changing life.
In Louis Vuitton's latest High Jewellery collection, Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director of Watches and Jewelry, builds upon the brand's epic geological narrative with Chapter II of the Deep Time High Jewelry collection. This is Amfitheatrof's fifth High Jewellery collection for the brand. With 50 new one-of-a-kind pieces across 10 themes, this collection offers new perspectives and harmonious designs through its extraordinary gemstones.
"With this second Chapter of Deep Time, we continue the story of this most beautiful, poetic collection that symbolises a vast and incredible storyline," says Amfitheatrof.
The evolutionary tale of Deep Time begins by transporting us to an era when Earth consisted of only two supercontinents — Gondwana and Laurasia. In this retelling, Amfitheatrof introduces Laurasia with yellow diamonds and contrasting metals, from platinum to pink gold. The high-collar necklace, an Amfitheatrof signature, features seven rows of sparkling gems and the Maison's signature V motif. The suite includes an exquisite yellow ring and striking as well.
After seismic meteorological events, the Earth transforms, inspiring Drift. Golden sapphires celebrate the energizing sun along an elegant single-strand necklace decorated with classic V motifs suitable for everyday wear with its matching white gold bracelet. This new age welcomes the dawn of life as well, as seen in the DNA-like necklace of Myriad. Sinuous and futuristic, the double-helix forms of the necklace are joined by a bejeweled rope that adds feminity and fluidity to the piece. The suite also features another necklace and matching cuff that parallel the white gold from Chapter I alongside a ring and multiple pairs of earrings.
Symbiosis, a new theme in Deep Time, follows with delicate jewels, intricate forms, and feminine pastels inspired by Earth's first organic ecosystems, specifically fungi and mycelium. From its multi-strand necklace to its organic earrings and rings, spinels are at the core of this theme, adding pink, purple, and blue hues that highlight each piece's natural beauty.
As the collection enters Fossils, the evolution of life continues, featuring jewels that Amfitheatrof describes as "treasure of time and place, they're an incredible way to map our planet's geological changes." Chapter II sees a more minimalist approach to this suite with a single-strand necklace and matching bracelet, both featuring royal blue sapphires. As the collection blossoms into Plants, images of lush foliage appear. A more literal interpretation than in Chapter I, this suite includes a necklace with a platinum and yellow vine and three radiant leaves, two of which can be detached and worn as brooches, in addition to a simpler necklace with a single lead and an emerald ring reminiscent of the planet's flora.
Skin sets the foundation for the final themes of Deep Time as it documents flourishing life. The star of this suite is the Umba sapphire, which is further enhanced by the use of rose gold. The necklace, matching bracelet, exceptional ring, and delicate ear cuffs glisten with a blend of geometric, graphic patterns mimicking the skin of a snake and orange and pink hues.
Moving into Bones, the collection shifts to human life and form. Chapter II carries on the intricacy of this theme with a choker-style necklace featuring an LV Monogram star-cut diamond at its center. Marked by white gold and custom-cut diamonds, the suite also includes another graphic necklace, a set of rings, double-hoop ear cuffs and a two-strand, Paraibatouramaline ring.
Seeds is a celebration of birth, honouring the collection's commitment to nature's beauty and transformation. As such, Chapter II of the collection sees the introduction of pearls. Graceful and feminine but still strikingly modern, this suite includes a tasteful double-strand necklace with a white gold band and gray Tahitian pearls, a matching bracelet with over a thousand diamonds, and white gold earrings with golden pearls.
At the conclusion of Deep Time's story is Flower — an ode to the flower-like Louis Vuitton Monogram. The final suite includes the centerpiece necklace with a flower medallion suspended from a pavé chain alongside a matching ring and pair of earrings that are equally as sophisticated and timeless.
