Celebrating 90 Years of Chanel High Jewellery with the “1932” Collection

It’s 1932, and Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel has just launched her first high jewellery collection, “Bijoux de Diamants”. It’s a collection centred around three heavenly bodies — comets, the moon and the sun. 

Ninety years later, Chanel’s high jewellery is as relevant and beautiful today as it was in the 30s. Patrice Leguéreau, director of the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, has decided to launch a tribute collection with the same heavenly bodies. 

The 77-piece collection circles the comet, moon and sun in a modern way, creating “Living Jewellery”. The pieces in the collection are in constant contact and movement with the human body that dons them. In stark contrast to the nearly absolutely devotion to diamonds in the 1932 collection, the 2022 collection boldly spotlights colourful gemstones. 

The signature piece in the “1932” collection is the Allure Céleste necklace, in white gold with diamonds and sapphire. Transformable from the main necklace form into seven different styles, the interstellar necklace interprets the heart of light and brilliance of the heavens as a physical manifestation of the “1932” theme. An intensely blue sapphire of 55.55ct (perhaps a nod to Mademoiselle's lucky number) sits squarely at the core of the necklace, surrounded by round-cut diamonds and a Type IIa DFL 8.05ct pear-shaped diamond.

The Moon is an 18-piece set within the collection that illustrates the mysterious nature of the only heavenly that doesn’t emit light but reflects it. Of the five sections from The Moon, Lune Solaire pushes forth the different faces of the moon through its earrings and rings. The orange spinel, white diamonds and yellow diamonds come together to display the changing facets of the moon through colour.
