When it comes to iconic watches, few are as instantly recognisable or beloved as the Cartier Tank. To celebrate the watch's 104-year-old legacy, Cartier is holding an exclusive exhibition at The Hour Glass' exquisite Malmaison boutique.

The aptly-named Cartier Tank Experience is on from now until December 5. It's an immersive look inside one of the watchmaking world's most enduring icons, packed with pop cultural references and historic material from the Cartier archives itself.

The exhibition also comes with a sophisticated strap bar — a first in Asia — which allows guests to customise their own Tank Must creation on the spot.

Louis Cartier himself developed the Tank watch during the First World War; the founder of the famed maison served in the auxiliaries. It was a visit to the front line that gave Cartier the inspiration for his iconic watch: The Tank's distinctive vertical sidebars — called brancards — were purportedly based on the Renault FT's wide treads. When viewed from above, the watch is meant to resemble a, well, tank.

Since then, the Tank watch has undergone numerous iterations — from the more approachable 'Must de Cartier' Tank collection in 1977 to an all-new solar-powered version released earlier this year — to become one of the watch world's most beloved icons.
