Bvlgari Unveils the Serpenti Amethyst Collection

The Italian jeweller's iconic Serpenti watches get an ultraviolet update.

Whether in the form of amethysts on the crowns of ancient Roman kings or as the heart of Prince's No. 1 record, the colour purple has always belonged to royalty. With the new Serpenti Amethyst Capsule, Bvlgari's iconic watches now fall under the category, too.

The collection builds on the Italian jeweller's love for amethyst, using the violet gemstone to breathe new life to three Serpenti watches. On the Serpenti Misterio Bangle, baguette-cut amethysts appear on the snake's scales while pear-shaped amethysts make up its eyes.

The Serpenti Incantati watch, also introduced in 2016, features a rose gold case adorned with diamonds and 33 amethysts weighing 2.45 carats. The rich hue of the gemstone can also be found on the watch's hands and alligator strap.

The most impressive creation of the collection is undoubtedly the Serpenti Scaglie, whose famous wraparound bracelet is now covered in scales made of brilliant diamonds and buff-cut amethysts set in rose gold. The extravagance of the 126 amethysts — weighing 6.65 carats in all — is subdued with a mother-of-pearl watch dial.

The Serpenti Amethyst Capsule is not the only way that Bvlgari has reimagined its beloved snake-themed range as of late. Earlier this year, the Italian brand debuted the Serpenti Seduttori timepiece, which features a slimmer version of the Serpenti Tubogas's drop-shaped case.
