Versus Spring/Summer 2018
If Versace is the grand dame of opulent Italian glamour, Versus is her younger, more rebellious sister – a little bit street, a little bit rock 'n' roll and sexy as hell.
After this summer's Zayn x Versus collab, it's safe to say that Donatella Versace has fully embraced the millennial shift. The Spring/Summer 2018 runway coed cast – made up of Adwoa Aboah, Issa Lish, and other über cool creatives – was carefully cultivated to embody the young, defiant Versus youth. And the collection? It was fun, exuberant, and according to Donatella, "...a celebration of the essence of Versus in '90s New York."
Merely defining it as 'streetwear' would be a disservice to the collection. Yes, the urban influences were aplenty but each piece was given the requisite Versace treatment: sharp tailoring, defiantly loud logos and unexpected pairings. Case in point: plaid suits and mini dresses with studded cowboy panels, sleek knits and sportswear with graphic panels, swimwear as streetwear, semi-deconstructed fringed Western jackets, and the reappearance of a Versace archive print in pistachio green.
