Upcycled by Miu Miu Prevails with 50 Limited-Edition Leather Jackets
Embracing the circular economy, Miu Miu embarks on a journey to give pre-loved garments a new life for its Fall/Winter 2022 collection.
With the ephemeral nature of fashion, the incessant waste and impractical consumption habits over the years have led to the downfall of global warming today. In an effort to keep up with the regenerative system, Upcycled by Miu Miu was created to pursue sustainable ideologies in the house.
In a long-term commitment to sustainability, Miu Miu continues to give pre-owned clothes a second life: A renewal installed to maximise the durability and longevity of the garment. For its Fall/Winter 2022 collection, we saw a series of limited edition leather jackets refashioned in true Miu Miu style.
Carefully sourced from vintage markets all over the world, the Miu Miu atelier breathes new life into these leather jackets by reworking them by hand, each with a unique character and silhouette.
Altering the classic garment, the house takes the inherently masculine silhouette with a feminine spin. Reimagined with delicate and sleek embellishments, the leather jackets are reinvented with an array of creations – from 1920s-inspired collars, stylized flowers and crystals to python-print leather and satin ribbon trim.
Unapologetically feminine, the accompanying campaign video features intelligently frivolous women shot alongside shiny vintage motorcycles, gleaming metal and inky rubber in an anonymous urban subway.
Challenging the perspectives of contemporary masculinity, feminine cues are contextualised with the masculine to place emphasis on the contrasting lavish materials. The campaign stars actors and models Ever Anderson, Esther McGregor and Mama Bineta Sane and is set in a metropolitan scene to depict not only the story of the person, but the traces of uses and development in the garment to offer endless possibilities of new stories in the present and future.
