You may have come across the Max Mara Teddy Bear Coat. A big favourite amongst celebrities, it was first introduced on the runways in 2013 and has since gone on to sell thousands, spotted amongst the fashionable, from fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, to celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Julia Roberts and more.

And now, designer, Ian Griffiths, the coat’s designer, has come with another rendition of the teddy coat - the Teddy Bear Vest. Made from fur-effect alpaca, wool and silk and a two-tone, horizontal striped motif, coming in double-breasted fastening with horn buttons, this is certainly a statement maker perfect for transitional weather.

Griffiths had spent a lot of time in the archives to rediscover the rich 'Teddy Bear' coats that the brand had made earlier in the 80s, with the use of plush long pile fabrics in noble fibres, originally developed in German mills for making high end children's toys. Working with an italian supplier, they redeveloped the technology to produce the unique faux fur camel hair on a base of silk, for what has made the coat so iconic today.

“I remembered a certain type of coat in the ’80s made from rich, deep pile, and I had a feeling that kind of coat was missing and would tap into the zeitgeist,” Ian Griffiths said, on the origins of the Teddy coat.
