Take A Walk Through Coach’s Archives at Tomorrow's Vintage
Nestled in the heart of downtown is Coach’s pop-up shop — Tomorrow’s Vintage: A first-ever concept store that has repurposed a vacant historical shophouse at 1 Teck Lim Road to feature the House’s iconic archival collections.
Although the entirety of its structure has been painted a vibrant yellow and decorated with neon fixtures to add a touch of modernity to the space, historical elements such as the original architecture’s worn-out tiled floors and collapsible shophouse grille remain to keep the vintage aspect of the pop-up alive.
Upon entry, you will be immediately welcomed by a homely feeling — perhaps due to the cosiness formed by the small shop. There, you will find several Kopitiam-esque wooden chairs, olden coat racks, and display cabinets holding various styles of Coach bags that also add to the historical vibe of the space.
The best part of the experience? Admiring Coach’s archives up close and personal. Flown straight from New York, designs such as the Ergo: Coach’s favourite hobo bag and the Cashin: The bag with a signature kisslock closure designed by fashion pioneer Bonnie Cashin will be on display for fashion lovers to marvel at. Keep a lookout for the trenchcoat with Cashin’s iconic kisslock fixture sewn on it!
The House's refurbished bags are also available for purchase — a limited series of vintage Coach Originals and pre-loved handbags from Coach’s clientele titled ‘Coach(Re)Loved’. Past styles such as the classic 1990 Court bag and 1994 Prairie bag will be on sale throughout the period of the pop-up. Think of it as high-end thrifting: Rare finds that only you will possess.
As a bonus, a vintage television will be displayed alongside the bags to show you the restoration process by specialist Debi the Restorer.
Tomorrow’s Vintage comes equipped with Coach’s famous craftsmanship bar for customers to personalise their leather goods. Craftsmen who were trained by Mauricio, Coach’s master craftsman in New York City, will be on-site to provide leather cleaning, monogramming, and other customisation services for anyone who purchases a bag from the shop. Local artist Tiffany Lovage and professional embroiderer Zoey Wong will also take turns operating the post to offer their customisation skills.
Existing customers who wish to customise their pre-loved bags may also bring them to the space to do so at a service fee.
As for visitors who wish only to view the bags, you may even stand a chance to win a complimentary Coach Create pin or patch at the pop-up. All you have to do is play Coach’s version of Singapore's favourite Tikam Tikam game. Simply pick a number at random on the Tikam board and hope for the best!
And if you wish to play the game from the comfort of your home, you can find a digital Tikam game available here.
Before you leave the store, browse through the rare vintage records on display courtesy of Brooklyn-based independent record label, Big Crown Records. If you listen carefully to the music playing from the speakers, you’ll find a specially curated playlist just for Tomorrow’s Vintage store by the label.
Tomorrow’s Vintage will be open to the public from 21 August to 12 September at 1 Teck Lim Road Singapore 088379, between 12 pm to 9 pm. It will be closed on Monday.
