Stripes Aplenty with the adidas x Gucci Collection
The luxury House partners with the iconic sportswear brand in a retro collection of athletic wear and athleisure pieces.
Gucci and adidas – two big brands known for their signature stripes – come together for a collection of dynamic ready-to-wear styles. Creative Director of Gucci Alessandro Michele designed the pieces for the collaboration, celebrating both brands’ heritage and history with graphic lines.
Birthed through the lens of Carlijn Jacobs, the collection is presented as an archival catalogue of diverse, zestful personalities styled against a myriad of vibrant backdrops. As the cherry on top, the athletic props are an allusion to the aesthetics of the fitness craze in the 1980s.
The collection reenvisions traditionally formal pieces with energetic motifs from both brands, with casual codes sprung from retro roots. Logomania is intensified as a melding of the brands’ logos takes over accessories and each brand’s own symbols cover the sporty silhouettes in the classic diagonal.
The jackets and tracksuits, a core theme in the collection, are decidedly spun together in a whirlwind of stripes. adidas’ Three Stripes line one sleeve of a jacket from the collection, which carries the red and green Web of Gucci on the other sleeve.
Sparked by a shared commitment to sustainability, innovation and collective action, the collection also sees the release of multiple pieces that feature future-conscious fabrications such as cotton and polyester. The GG bucket hat and baseball cap are both made in part with ECONYL® regenerated nylon.
adidas’ iconic Gazelle sneakers for both women and men are given a Gucci revamp for the collection. The funky collaboration has also launched a series of flatforms for women, created from the kaleidoscopic colour palette of the collection. Unapologetically energetic, the range of bright shoes tie together all the looks from Michele in true Gucci fashion, marked by adidas’ spirited sensibilities.
The sporty collection will be launched on 7 June across select Gucci and adidas platforms.
