So Deer To Me: Gucci's Pre-Fall 2020 Campaign Stars Some Extremely Adorable Animals
It’s safe to say that Gucci has had its fair share of unusual campaign stars since Alessandro Michele took over the reins. Remember the time Harry Styles cuddled up to a litter of piglets? Or when a herd of horses walked the streets of Los Angeles? Well, we’re in for an even heftier dose of critter cuteness this coming season, because Michele has cast a whole host of adorable animals for the Italian house’s Pre-Fall 2020 campaign. Deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, squirrels, ducks, frogs, skunks, and more front the aptly-named #SoDeerToMe series, alongside several Gucci-clad (human) models.
Lensed by longtime collaborator Alasdair McLellan, the paradisiacal campaign is “an ode to retrieved innocence, a return to the infant world, a call for real engagement and, with that, life”. Set in the sun-drenched countryside of southern Spain, models in ‘70s-esque velvet suits, trapeze dresses, brightly-coloured, and jaunty eyewear let loose with childlike abandon, frolicking through the grass, climbing trees, playing on swings and slides, and hula-hooping, all the while surrounded by capering creatures. In a time of uncertainty and isolation, the bucolic visuals are the feel-good fix we could all use more of right now.
The nature-filled campaign comes hot on the heels of Gucci’s collaboration with The Lion’s Share Fund, a non-profit that aims to protect endangered species and their natural habitats. The luxury house has pledged to donate a portion of its media spending to the cause every time an animal is featured in one its ads, which gives us all the more reason to enjoy this campaign.
