Self-Portrait Announces Blackpink's Jisoo as Their Newest Face
The K-pop superstar joins Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid as global ambassador for the UK label.
London-based fashion label, Self-portrait surprised the world yesterday by announcing that Jisoo of Blackpink is their newest global brand ambassador, fronting their latest Spring/Summer 2024 campaign. It's certainly a partnership that not many would've guessed as it is the first time the two are working together on a global scale. It's an exciting period for Jisoo of Blackpink as she is now the boss of her own solo activities outside of the group with the establishment of her agency, Blissoo. This means the idol has more freedom to take on personal projects in all realms, from film to fashion.
While Jisoo is often seen in Dior as the maison's global ambassador, fans have noted that she wears other designers including Self-Portrait in music videos, concerts and performances. “We first started working with Jisoo many years ago, dressing her both on and off the stage, so having her front our campaign was a natural next step - it encapsulates the trajectory of the relationships we strive to nurture with those that we are fortunate enough to work with,” Malaysia-born designer Han Chong, Founder & Creative Director of Self-portrait said in a statement, regarding the new partnership.
It's also noteworthy that Jisoo is the first musician signed to be the face of the UK label with previous representatives being models such as Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski. “Musicians quickly became a great source of inspiration for me as a designer – through their costumes, their chameleonic evolutions, and mesmerising performances," Han explained, "I’ve therefore always wanted to work with an artist who could transmit the values we hold at self-portrait and who represents the women we connect with globally."
He went on to reflect on his pick of Jisoo, saying, “Watching Jisoo’s journey to becoming a global icon has been so inspiring not only to me, but to a legion of fans. She is a role model to so many - kind, inspiring, sensitive and a pillar of strength - I wanted her beauty, both inside and out, to be front and centre of this first series of portraits we shot together in Seoul.” We can't wait to see what else Self-portrait and Jisoo has in store in the future!
