Salvatore Ferragamo Takes On '60s Futurism at Milan Fashion Week
Relaxed tailoring, cutouts and the futurism of the '60s take over the runway at Salvatore Ferragamo.
In place of a show, Salvatore Ferragamo opted for an immersive virtual experience, produced in the neoclassical Sala delle Cariatidi of Palazzo Reale, in the heart of Milan's Piazza Duomo. The collection strengthens the notion of informality, which started to gain popularity two years ago and is continuing to grow during the pandemic after so much time spent indoors. The idea behind the collection is that these pieces can be made, chosen and worn like any evening dress or tuxedo; even going through the same precious production process as you would for a major event.
Relaxed tailoring enters the scene along with more robust knits. Subtle references to '60s futuristic looks are also mixed with sport pants and jumpsuits. Dramatic ruffles provide a counterpoint and its styling only strengthens the idea of casual wear. A mesh bodysuit is worn under a leather miniskirt and baggy pants are worn inside heavy boots.
Following this flow, the brand also remodelled the bags; the Ferragamo Studio, for example, comes in new sizes and materials, including crocodile-effect pressed relief, distorting the sense of scale.
