Alex Israel and Rimowa Are Making Sure You Never Lose Your Luggage
In the latest of a string of big-name collaborations with brands like Supreme and Off-White by Virgil Abloh, Rimowa has teamed up with Los Angeles artist Alex Israel to create the gradient-color suitcase the world needed. It’s safe to say that Alexandre Arnault is definitely pushing the 120-year-old luxury luggage brand in the right direction.
The mid-Frieze-week pop-up installation celebrating the new launch brings pink, blue, and orange reminders of the famous LA sunset, which visitors and locals were missing during an unusual wave of torrential rain. The limited-edition aluminum luggage comes with a set of Alex Israel stickers exclusive to the collection. Two versions of the collection were on display for viewers to pet, pre-order, and covet.
“We did this pop-up specifically as a roadside attraction building," Israel told L'Officiel USA of the concept behind the event, which honored LA's historical landscape with a 20-foot suitcase on the corner of one of West Hollywood's most famous intersections. "Because California is a car culture, there were all these buildings designed and made to be attractive to drivers driving by. Most of them are shaped like the thing that they’re selling.”
With an enormous suitcase in the colors of an LA sunset, we’re definitely buying.
