Power Couple: Prada X Adidas
After teasing a collaboration on social media a few days ago, Prada and Adidas have made it official, announcing their partnership on a new collection of sneakers and sailing shoes. Given that Prada has long resisted the collaboration craze of other luxury brands, this news is certainly reason to rejoice for stans and non-stans alike. After all, the Italian house is one of the original pioneers of the athleisure trend, having first championed the look in the late ‘90s with the Linea Rossa line, while Adidas has done several highly successful team-ups with designers like Stella McCartney, Rick Owens, and Alexander Wang, among others.
Although details are rather scarce right now, here’s what we do know. Combining the “visionary approach to technological development” of the German sportswear giant with Prada’s “unparalleled perspective on luxury and quality”, the collaboration will unfold in two stages. Limited edition sneakers for men and women will drop next month, while a line of performance footwear will launch in 2020, called Luna Rossa in reference to the luxury house’s sailing team. All the shoes will be manufactured in Prada’s Italian factory to reflect the savoir-faire associated with the ‘Made in Italy’ name.
